Hi, I'm Caitey Mac !
I'm the face behind Boards by Mac!
During maternity leave with my first baby two years ago I reignited my passion for creativity by experimenting with resin.
I combined my love for the ocean, art, and sustainability into one and found my calling in up-cycling surfboards and giving them a new lease on life.
My work extends to resin homewares and ethically sourced shell frames. I am now a mother of two little grommets and work from my home based studio in Perth, Western Australia.
My Story
I remember my first time seeing a resin artwork being made on a Youtube video, I was instantly in awe of how they made this piece look so much like the ocean. I thought to myself, I want to try that !
I promptly fell into the Youtube learning portal and have never looked back.
I experimented with all types of liquid mediums but kept coming back to resin- the flow and unpredictability of it reminds me so much of the ocean waves, how anything in nature is rarely symmetrical or perfect yet still so beautiful.
One day I had the bright idea to up-cycle an old surfboard and give it a fresh new look with some resin art. I love the idea of how the board tells a story and that it is something that can be cherished long after its days of catching waves.
I find so much joy in bringing these pieces to life and each piece is unique, made with love and intention.
Born and raised in the coastal area of Western Australia, I spent my life surrounded by the ocean which is a massive part of my inspiration.
My background in the arts extends to high school art classes and selling pieces at the local art gallery.
After selling a few resin art pieces on good old Facebook Marketplace I dived into the world of starting a small business with the support of my loving partner.
You can now find my ocean inspired creations in Collectives around W.A as well as seeing my face at some of the local markets.
I can't wait to meet you all !
Caitey xx
